Toddler Growth Tool

What’s a healthy weight for a toddler? Find out more through our toddler growth tool that will help you track your child’s growth and compare it to other toddlers of the same age.

Use our toddler growth chart to monitor your toddler’s growing weight and compare it to other toddlers their age.

Babies grow quickly during their first year, with the average baby tripling in weight and growing 50% in length. However, this growth and weight gain slows significantly in the second year, as your baby becomes an active toddler. A toddler weight chart is a handy tool for tracking your child’s growth, and seeing how it compares to other toddlers his age. Remember, though, that this tool is no substitute for your child’s toddler weight and health checks, and if you have any concerns about their growth, you should discuss this with their doctor.

Charting your toddler’s growth

A percentile scale from 0 to 100 is used to chart growth in young children, allowing parents and healthcare professionals to see where the child sits in comparison to the average toddler weight. A percentile of 50 represents the average or mean weight of children of the same age and gender. This tool tracks your toddler’s weight vs. age percentile to allow you to see how they are developing and progressing over time. It can be useful for charting toddler weight gain and determining the scale of normal weight for toddlers.

In simple terms, this tool is essentially a graph with an age scale running horizontally and a weight scale running vertically. A child’s age and weight form a plot point on the graph, which will sit somewhere along the percentile scale of 0 to 100. Percentiles on the graph are marked in lines to represent the expected growth curve of the average child.

How to use this tool:

This toddler growth calculator provides your toddler’s weight percentile based on their age, and uses data from the World Health Organization (WHO) for weight and age calculations.

Note that the normal weight for toddlers will vary depending on gender, so the WHO toddler girl weight chart and toddler boy weight chart are different.

To use the tool, simply enter your toddler’s gender, date of birth and weight to find where they sit on the graph. The mid-point charted on the graph is known as the 50th percentile – this represents the average or mean growth-rate of a child of the same gender and age. A value that charts below the mid-point of 50 means a child weighs less than the average. A value that charts greater than 50 means a child weighs more than the average.

This tool is for reference purposes only. The result does not necessarily mean your child is overweight or underweight and it is not a substitute for having a health care provider monitor your child’s growth at regularly scheduled exams. At these visits, your health care provider will determine whether your child is following a healthy growth pattern over time.
